Honesty and Experiencing God

Friends, I want to ask you two questions. Are you honest with God, like really honest? Are you experiencing intimacy with God right now?

I know intimacy is a big word. The New Oxford American Dictionary describes this as close familiarity or friendship; closeness.

Friends, the reason I am so passionate about this is because while I lived in a way where I wasn’t honest with God about what was going on in my heart and mind and instead did my quiet time or Bible Study daily, checked it off and went on with my day, I did not experience intimacy with God.

Oh dear girls, but once I began to see my time with God as time to experience Him, His Presence, His nearness, His Word, and to talk to my best friend King Jesus, everything changed.

My circumstances didn’t change, often they got worse in the eyes of the world; instead God changed me. He showed me His perspective and more than anything He showed me that He is with me and I am His daughter and as Romans 8:38 says nothing can separate me from His love.

Girls, I began to experience His peace, His comfort, and could hardly contain the joy that He gave me. I saw myself desperately in need of a Savior and as Paul calls himself “the chief of all sinners.” I began and still am in awe of God’s love for me as His daughter, His Beloved Child.

Oh and girls, once you’ve experienced this type of intimacy you want everyone to experience it and cannot imagine life without it.

He’d been there all along. I had just been afraid to come close. I didn’t know I could draw near to Him in my mess, but girls, that’s where He meets us all.

He doesn’t leave us there or as we are, but He meets us there. This is not a one-time meeting us in our mess, it’s continually ongoing.

Jesus answered them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:31-32)

When you sin, run to God, not away from Him. When you are confused or overwhelmed, run to God not away from Him. When you are sad, mad, and glad run to God, not away from Him.

He wants to know you, dear girls. This theme is over and over again in scripture about how God wants to know His people, talk with them, walk with them, and just be with them. He enjoys you and wants you to know His deep, unfathomable love through spending time with Him.

Let’s close with these beautiful lines from this song and make it the prayer of our hearts, “Be With Me” by Bryan & Katie Torwalt.

The world falls away

When I see Your face

Jesus, it's always been You

And I hear Your voice

Above all the noise

Jesus, it’s always been You

Jesus, it's always been You

Be with me

I just want You to be with me

Be with me

I just want You to be with me

I don't need You to do a thing

Your love is enough
