2020 What God Taught Her: Dechari - REST

Updated: Feb 8, 2021

I finally changed out my letter board. REST is actually my word from 2020, but really I’m just learning to live in it.

About 8 years ago I started asking God for a word that represented a season and area in my life for growth. I thought REST was such a weird word when it kept coming to me in different places in the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. But I knew the meaning would be different than face value.

In the summer, I felt the Holy Spirit confirm the meaning. Rest = you don’t have to carry the burden.

I thought it was mostly about the work I’m doing with Girls Living 4 God where I have gained a greater surrender. But as my family experienced the great loss of my sweet 17 year old nephew, Robert, and seen many others suffering loss and heartache from this past year, I see - I don’t have to carry the burden. I can trust them and even myself to be held in the arms of Jesus. He will carry what we cannot.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Dear daughter of the upmost High, rest because the God of the universe loves you more than anything and He’s got your tears, your heartache, your worry, your confusion, your thoughts of the future ... He will carry you. He will lead you. You are not alone. Let Him carry it. He is big enough.

- Much love, Dechari
