Dates with Jesus: Week Three

May 18, 2017

There's a song that keeps playing over and over again in my head-maybe you've heard it too:

The B-I-B-L-E. Yes that's the book for me! I stand alone on the word of God!

The B-I-B-L-E

The Bible is key to our Christian walk, but how many of us really know what we are standing on?

I was raised in a Christian household. My family went to church several times a week and my parents raised us to be deeply rooted in the Word of God. Need less to say, I grew up reading my Bible. As I got older and I began to develop a personal relationship with The Lord, my hunger and thirst for His Word began to deepen. Some people get cravings for fries or ice cream, I got cravings for the Word of God. I could feel God calling me closer to His heart and I knew that one of the keys to getting there was diving deeper into my Bible.

"Which book do I start with?" "How long do I need to read each day?"

It doesn't matter how long you read or what you read, just read.

To help get you started on your Bible reading, I'm going to show you some of my favorite tools that I use every day in my reading time.

1. Pens

I’m a nerd when it comes to pens. I have so many different types and colors of pens and I ALWAYS carry at least four pens with me in my purse. I like a variety of pens for my Bible time because it allows me to switch things up instead of having everything look the same.

2. Paint Swatches

I found this idea on Pinterest a few years ago. Using paint swatches to keep in my journal helps me to keep track of what I am reading by emphasizing the passage in key points. It also brightens up my Bible with pretty, vibrant colors.

3. My journal
Oh man, where would I be without my journal? I have been journaling for 7 years and I never leave home without it or my Bible. Keeping a journal while reading your Bible helps me retain what I have read and it gives me an opportunity to write out what The Lord was speaking to me in my daily readings. Sometimes I write down passages that stood out to me, other times I will write down a story that I read and how it relates to my current situation. The thing that I love about journaling is that it’s 100% YOU.

These are just a few of the many ways you can personalize your Bible reading time.

What I like about the tools that I use is that they are tools that I use every single day, so it’s natural for me to use them when I’m doing my Bible reading. I have found that if I use tools that I don’t use on a regular basis, I won’t use them in my reading time.

So here’s your challenge! Find some tools that you can use to dig deeper into your Bible (highlighters, Post-It notes, etc.). Once you’ve gathered your tools, pick one of the sections in my video “Outline of the Bible” to help you dive into His Word. Lastly, get connected! I want to hear about your journeys and experiences and the best way for you to do that is to upload your Dates with Jesus to Instagram and tag @girlsliving4god. You can also use our hashtag (#dateswithjesus) so I can keep up with all of you girls.

Here’s to new adventures! Are you ready?!
